Pres. Reagan Assassination Attempt
The following video is from a National Geographic Documentary on the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. What is your initial reaction after watching the video. Please comment by Friday.
hmm well i thought the oozy was very funny. u def dont wanna get shot wit that out on the block! haha that would be bad, but i think this is definitely more straightforward than the jfk assassination. theres no hidden consiracys or any misconceptions about the shooting. one shot, boom someone goes down. shot numbetr two another down and so on. my reaction was :0 cuz wow! haha yo the pres could have died! but i think that its good that he survived. I think he definitely should have had the whole area covered with more security. i mean, just the fact alone that someone can get in the area with a gun to kill the president!! i mean DUDE! someone needsa stop people like that or else someone else could die in the future! better not be obama haha hes my man. but seriously though i think the security was minamal and not enough for what was needed .mike haha i did good this time?
After watching the video i think it's stupid that someone would try to kill Reagan. It's sad how routine events like that one can't even be normal and safe. They shouldn't have had to have worn bullet proof vests to a conference like that to save those who were shot and killed. It sucks how one guy got hit in the neck and another in the stomach. Luckily Reagan managed to survive.
when i saw it the first time i was kinda confused however, the second time i watched it made more sence to me. i think they probally should have worn their body armor and they probally should have had more security because he was the president and no matter what he should have full security at all times so assassinations like this would not be as easy.
Well, first off I didn't even see the oozy anywhere. Secondly, I think that even though it was a routine meeting, they should've been more prepared. I think that the President should always wear a bulletproof vest because there's always someone out there that probably wants to kill him. It was upsetting that other innocent people got hurt in the process of the assassination attempt, but I was happy that Reagan didn't die.
I think its crazy that this can even happen. Like this guy with a gun made it into the press area i think they should have had better security in the press area. Like honestly the flippin president walks right by there and potentialy talks to these people and they let someone with a gun in. On top of all of that none of the secret service or him are wearing vests. Are they dumb? Rountine or not like they should take all precautions every single time he goes into public whether its routine or not. I think hes lucky it wasnt himn who dies, this guy had enough time to fire off six shots, with six shots he could have easily been dead, he got lucky! Overall i think they should have been alot more careful and had better security! Katie Legg :)

Okay, so this video basically shows that Reagan's secert service sucked. What kind of body gaurd says "oh its okay don't wear the bullet proof vest". UHM HELLO!? He is the president of the United states, not everyone loves him. To me, that is so ridiculous that the secert service would make that gutsy of a call. They are lucky he wasn't killed. As for Hinkley, guys a wacko. What person would fall inlove with you after you kill the president. Seriously. -Moriahhh
I think it was stupid how Hinckley tried to shoot the president. As lucky Reagan is to have not been killed, there should have been much better security. People, like Hinckley, are crazy and you never know what could happen when going into the public with the president. The secret service should have known better and worn vests when going out into the public. If someone with a gun is that close to the president, obviously there needs to be better security. -Ally
I was stunned when I watched this clip. So many men went down. I didn't realize John Hinckley shot 6 times. It's sort of ironic that the one time they don't wear their bullet proof vests, a shooting occurs. It just goes to show that you should always be safe rather than sorry. Reagan was very lucky to live after this occurrance, and John Hinckly is one crazy man. -Libbi
I think there should have been more protection for the president. You never know when someone could attack so there should be high security on the president at all times. It reminded me of how easy it was for people to get close to Obama now. Katie Sherlock
I think the secret service(as well as the President) made a dumb choice in not wearing their bullet-proof vests. They should know that no President is liked by all of the country(not to mention other countries) and they should have been more on the alert.
Wow that was crazy. I can't see that happening now adays but I guess that wasn't that long ago. Reagan was extremely lucky to be alive, but I think the secret service acted couragously when they tackled Hinckley. I also think that it is fortunate that it was caught on camera so there is no confusion about what happened. Meryl
First of all, I was disappointed because I didn't see the uzi. But besides that President Reagan, as well as his guards, definitely should have been wearing a bullet proof vest and security should have been much tighter for the President of the United States. President Reagan was extremely lucky!
WOW! What a complete disappointment! I wanted to see the full video with the uzi, the suspect's gun, and the m***** f*****! Well anywho, my comments will be based on the actual video, I thought it was really a good show of the quickness of the secret service, and how they can still be bada** while doing it too. I was shocked to find that they weren't wearing vests. This just goes to show that you can never let your guard down.
Reagan was lucky to be alive after this incident. I think that more precautions should have been taken because security clearly were not doing their best. This was probably an eye opener for the president as well as security, and i'm sure they've learned an important lesson.
First, I didn't realise more people than just the president were shot. Also, it shows that you should never take the risk of not wearing the vest, even though their should have been more security on Raegan. I also liked how it showed the three different shots of what each news camera captured. -Sarah
