  1. I agree with LBJ's decision to not run for a second term. The Vietnam war was not any closer to a solution or a clear winner with him in office, and he for the most part, started the war (not having to confront Congress about declaring a war).

I agree with his decision not to run because he is trying to make America closer and not divided. Even if that means him not running for the second term.

  3. I agree with LBJ and his decision not to run for another term. He felt the division and distrust that the Vietnam War caused and knew the war wouldn't get a solution with him as president. He had the best intentions for the American people and himself.

  4. Yes, I agree with Lyndon B Johnsons decision not to run for re-election because of the lose to Senator McCarthy in the New Hampshire Primary, giving Johnson the decison that he probably wouldn't win a re-election, because of the discontent by the American public over the Vietnam War.

I agree with his decision. This is because he said that he can't devote his time to do this. Therefore, it will hurt our country and he said without him being president, that America will become a stronger nation.

  6. I also agree with LBJ to not run for a second term as President. He decided to keep the soldiers in Vietnam and the American people disliked him for this because it wasn't our war to be fighting in. Thousands of soldiers risked their lives for a war that shouldn't have been in our hands. The war was not coming to an end and it would be pointless to run for a second term when he knew he would not win.

  7. i agree with LBJ because the war was dividing the American people and was nowhere near any solution. he knew that not only would he not be able to be re-elected, but that he would also not come any closer to a solution that America would be proud of.

  8. I agree with his decision because he saw the divide between Americans nationwide and he did not want to further divide in the U.S.

  9. I agree with him not running for another term. Many people did not like him for the fact of getting involved with the war. He also would have any family members of soldiers that served time for the Vietnam War or any possible soldiers from the draft, voting against him for the next election. He knew he was not going to be re-elected so it was a wise decision to step down.

  10. I don't think LJB should have gone so i agree with his desision. he started the war and i don't think he would have had enough votes to win the election. Desiree Sylvester

  11. Even thoug the desicion he took was the most reasonable, I disagree on what he did, this makes me think of him as a coward, because as president of the United States he should stay and assume the problems he had during his term and try to solve them in the next one, he turned down the responsibility of the Vietnam War when he was the one who started it, he turned down the domestic division and issues caused by the war, he turned down on civil rights movement and negotiating the end of the Cold War, all of this things that Nixon was willing to do. I think as the great president he was he should have recognize his mistakes, he should have ended the war in his next term, seek for reconciliation at home and diplomatic relations with the communist.

  12. LBJ's decision not to run a second term was the right choice. First of all, (1) he knew the war in Vietnam wasn't going anywhere, and (2) he clearly was running out of reasons on what to do with it and how to stop it. (3) Johnson was talking about division in the House and in the U.S. and how something in that condition could not stand. LBJ knew what was going on.

-Oh, by the way Barbuto, you spelled decision wrong in your explanation/directions for this video. "Pres. Johnson and his decidion".

  13. I absolutely disagree with his decision to not run for president again in the election. I believe this because he got involved with war, and he was given the power to do whatever he wanted in the war, and now he is leaving the mess of a war, most people find pointless, on another man,s shoulders. Also by him not re running, his economic policy, Great Society, will no longer be put into effect, and in my opinion that plan was very well thought it out and executed as well and I believed the U.S. government should have continued this policy. My final reason for believing he made the wrong decision was that this sort of made me think that he is a coward, he's turning his back on the war, the American people, and the soldiers left there stranded that had no choice to go. He should have tried to stay and resolve the problems to show that he can stand up for the American people, but instead he backed down. He did not try to earn support from rival communist countries, which could have easily resolved this, instead Nixon did it for him. So at least we were lucky to have Nixon in to do that.

  14. I agree with his desicion not to seek re-election. Not only did he get us involved in a pointless war, but also he steered away from his main presidency campaign idea of the great society. He took money from it and put it towards a war we shouldn't have even been in. Also he knew he wasn't going to win so why waste the time and money.

  15. I agree with Lyndon B. Johnson's decision to step down form his re-election. Many people all over the nation were very upset with him because of his poor decisions in the war. He realized that the once united America was now being divided, and didn't want this to continue. He also knew that the men who were drafted and the veterans of the war, would not be pleased with him or vote for his re-election. Although LBJ practically gave up, it was for good reasons.

  16. I agree with Dom in the sense that the fact that LBJ did not wish to run for office for another term made him somewhat of a coward. I do not agree with his decision to step down, because I feel like it was somewhat disrespectful to the American people and he was quitting on our bad situation rather than trying to improve it. It was a difficult situation though and I can see both sides of the arguement.

  17. I agree with LBJ's decision to not seek re-election. He did not want to divide the nation anymore than it already has become. Also the lose of trust from the American people during the Vietnam war. Finally because everyone did not want the war and he brought them into provided good reason to not go for re-election because the people disliked him....Kyle Gordon

  18. I Agree with LBJ decicion not to run for the nomination of president. he can see thing right before his eyes not working out. He says how he see's the country dividing . people getting angry . He is done dealing with the same thing everyday and is willing to hand this problem that wasnt supposed to be so big to someone else who wants to put up with it. And for that i dont blame him.

  19. I agree with LBJ's decision, he knew he wouldnt be able to get out of this war, so he didnt wanna hurt this country more. If he ran again i dont think he would have won anyways, and i think he realized this.

  20. I agree with LBJ's decision to not seek re-election for a second term. The Vietnam war was causing an uproar in America. United States citizens were starting to question whether having their taxes raised and soliders lost was worth the continued participation in a war that wasn't even their own. Soliders themselves were also starting to question whether the fight against communism was worth losing their lives, and leaving their families. Universities nationwide were protesting, riots between students and police were breaking out, and the death toll of American soliders was rapidly escalading. The Tet Offensive of 1968 left Americans shocked as they viewed the carnage of the war first-hand in their own living rooms. Year after year LBJ broadcasted that the war would soon come to an end, but instead it continued. Americans directed their anger towards LBJ because he made many war-escalading actions that were costly to the economy. In the midst of this, President LBJ had to come to a decision whether to make peace, or continue the war with hopes that North Vietnam and Vietcong would surrender. LBJ was running out of answers and options, which is why I believe he stepped down and decided not to run for re-election.

  21. I agree with Johnson's decision to not seek for re-election for his second term. America was unhappy that we were in the war in the first place. He had escalated the war and he finally wanted it to end. He says he can see that the country is dividing and that's true. He was wasting money and peoples time, and got us involved in a pointless war. His decision on not running for president again was a good idea.

  22. I Agree with lyndon B. Johnsons desicion to not go further in his presidency. He did not want to go along with things he didn't agree with. He did not want to be part of something that he did not agree with. He hoped that peace was right around the corner. And he did it in a respectful manner as well.

  23. i believe johnsons decision to not seek re-election was completely justified. in this video clip it seemed like he beleived whole heartedly in america and its interests. he trusted that the nation would one day find peace. however he did not beleive that time would be soon and he did not want to lead the country into more troubled times. i feel like he almost felt like he couldnt handle the responsibility and cared so much for his country that he wanted to give someone else a chance who might have better luck. which is respectable. unfortunatly we got stuck with an idiot right after him.

  24. I 100% agree with LBJ's decision not to run for second term, by him getting re- elelcted that would have only hurt us as Americans and it would hurt our country. He stated him self that he doesn't time to devote all of his time to this.We need a president that is willing to take the time and be dedicated to us 24/7. LBJ knows himself that if he lets someone else be president, our nation as a whole will be stronger and better. I'm glad that he is not stubborn, and he knows his limitations, and thats why I agree with him.

  25. I agree with Lyndon Johnson in stepping down for re-election. 1) LBJ knew that the Vietnam War wasn't going anywhere. 2) LBJ knew his people were angry that he didn't remove the soldiers from Vietnam. 3) He already knew he wasn't going to be re-elected so stepping down made it much easier and wasn't as hard for him.

  26. LBJ's decision not to seek re-election was odd, but in my opinion, not necessarily the worst decision. His decision shows cowardice, which shouldn't be shown by any President, but at the same time, it displays the point that he is not the right man for the job because he shows cowardice and makes poor decisions. Therefore, if he's the wrong man for the job he shouldn't seek re-election. He speaks about "device-ive partisanship" (is device-ive a word? He says it at 0:49 and 1:20) as an excuse to not seek re-election, yet a man (or woman) that is good enough to be president should be strong enough to stand up against the "partisan divisions" issues. I feel he blames his not running for president completely on how annoyed he is with the fighting between Republicans and Democrats, but he should be able to both put up with it, and stand up against it. In the end, I believe that America was better without LBJ.

  27. I agree with his decision not to run for president again because he was trying to better our country. He saw how the people were unhappy with what was going on and he didnt want America to become even more dived than it already was.

  28. I do not completely agree with his decision not to be re-elected, but i do not disagree with it. The good part is that when he did leave office, the war did end. If he kept in, he might have kept the war going longer than it should have, and destroyed too many lives. In reality, i do not disagree nor agree with his decision, and have chosen to remain Neutral on the subject.

  29. I agree with LBJ. His bad decisions about the war led him to step down from running again. He made a lot of people angry and disagree with what happened about the war. yup

  30. I do not agree with LBJ's decision to not run for another term. I feel as though he was abandoning his coutry in its time of need. Also, he inadvertently caused some of the problems in Vietnam, so my feelings are that he should have stuck around until he had fixed AT LEAST the problems that he caused. LBJ shyed away because not all the people agreed with him and the decisions that he made, but whenever a decision is made someone will always disagree with it. You can't please all the people all the time. As a president of the United States of America, he should have been able to handle these issues, but I am a bit happy because I would not want someone to represent our country who can't even stand up to his own people.

  31. He already knew he wasn't going to be re-elected so stepping down made it much easier. I partialy agree with his decision just because people lost trust in him, wich made the whole situation in U.S. worse.
