Watch the speech that Pres. Kennedy gave to America during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Please post and comment on what you thought of the speech. Did you like it? Would you have changed anything? How would you have felt during this time? This will count as a homework assignment. Honors classes should write between 4-6 sentences. Regular level classes should write between 3-4 sentences.
I thought that the speech made by JFK was a very informational one. I would not have changed anything that he said in the speech. I would have felt scared if I was living in that time. I would be scared because I wouldn't know if we were gong to war with the USSR for the first time. I also wouldn't be scared because I saw that JFK was going to do something about this crisis.

1ST COMMENT! JFK really gets his point across and he uses strong language to do so. For example, he describes Cuba as an imprisoned island. Also, you can hear the anger towards the Soviets in his voice. I would not have changed anything.
ReplyDeleteBILLY FERRARA
I felt he handled the situation properly, however when I am supreme ruler of the universe I will not speak in such a boring cadence, as it is rather boring and distinct in his voice. However I felt it was a firm but not to threatening, as opposed to the statement:"you can hear the anger towards the Soviets in his voice." (William Ferrara). I beleive that if he had approached the soviets with a hatred they may have not reacted in the way they did. These are my opinions in the matter.
ReplyDeleteI believe the speech by J.F.K. was good for americans to hear. It informed them of the situation between the U.S. and U.S.S.R that they may have known little about. It may have taken some of the fear away. I believe he handled the situation very well and maturely. John F. Kennedy's speech about the Cuban Missle Crisis overall was very good and I would not have changed anything about it.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the speech that John F. Kennedy gave was important. It gave Americans the unknown information that most people did not know. It also helped relive the uncertainty of war between the United States and the Soviet Union. This also got rid of the worries of war, because the president handled this situation well. I would have changed one thing about his speech, J.F.K. had spoken in a mono-toned voice and this was hard for me to understand, ( this may of been because I am hearing impaired but anyway!!) and as a president you should speak more clearly so that more people will listen. Other than this I would say that his speech was good he was though about his information
I liked this speech because JFK was not alarming but calm during his adress to the nation. I wouldnt change anything about it;it was a well written speech.I would have felt secure and safe because JFK didnt put the people in panic and he handled the whole thing maturely. Also that he told us the situation and the precautions that were developing in and around Cuba. You cold tell he cares about this a whole lot or he would just go to war and nobody would want that.
ReplyDeleteI liked the speech that JFK made on the cuban missile crisis. It was well thought of and carefully written to inform but not panic the unitied states. If I was to change anything i would add pictures and or film clips to show the progress of cuban missile outposts. During this time I would've felt calm due to the speech given by JFK and would've felt that he could take care of the problem.

I liked the speech that JFK made about the crisis. It was very informative and well-planned out and also JFK spoke calmly so it wasn't very alarming. I don't think I would've changed anything about the speech. It was well written and stated. During this point in time I would have probably been a little scared but I would know that JFK could handle the situation.
ReplyDeleteI liked President John F. Kennedy's speach very much. He talks in such a calm manner that it can make a listener not worry about the danger of the situation at hand. I also like how he starts by explaining what is going on as well as his reasoning for taking the action he later speaks of. If I would have heard the Presidents speech at the time he had given it, I probrably would not have fealt scared due to his calm manner of addressing the threat. I would not have any of his speech changed. It seems sufficient enough the way it is.

I think that JFK's speech was very well written. He gave America the straight facts in a calm manner, which probably helped alleviate the panic that some people might have felt. If I was alive at that time, I definitely would have been afraid. However, I would have felt confident that the President would handle the situation with the country's safety as his top priority.

Here's whats up,that John Fitzgerald Kennedy is a highly eloquent speaker and the manner in which he adressed his fair nation is calm cool and collected. He does his best to not alarm them but let them know whats going down with Cuba and the Soviets. Also he is a fox.and because of that the country feels much more safe and secure,as opposed to sweaty Nixon running the joint.I agree with what "Callen Gardener is a winner" stated previously " However I felt it was a firm but not to threatening, as opposed to the statement:"you can hear the anger towards the Soviets in his voice." (William Ferrara)." I do not agree with Billiam Ferrara's statement. He ssem perfectly calm and while I am sure he is mad at the soviets seeing as he is from Boston he does not put himself off that way.

I agree with Kennedy's views. I would not have changed anything about it besides one thing. The way he presents himself while talking is in a way choppy. In my opinion, it could have been more prepared and fluent. Other than that, I think Kennedy handled it correctly.

I believe that John F. Kennedy handled the Cuban Missile Crisis very well. He stayed calm during the speech he gave out to the nation. He informed the people of what was happening and what he was doing to fix it in a manner that would make me not feel scared if I lived during that time.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed John F. Kennedy's speech regarding the Cuban Missile Crisis. Kennedy handed the situation very calmly and reacted accordingly with a well thought out plan. I would have felt calm during this point of crisis for the president had a clear plan and had the lives of the citizens of the United States in mind. I would not have changed anything to the speech for I feel John F. Kennedy did an amazing job.
ReplyDeleteJackie Goddard
I thought the speech was well organized. JFK seemed to have it all together, it wasn't influenced by opinion, it was more just a list of how the government was going to handle the problem. He didn't say anything outrageous out of anger or panic, and his goals weren't unrealistic. He said why he decided to go about it the way he did, to maintain peace, not just in that hemisphere, but in the world. Ciara is right, he's a fox. And i'm sure the nation remained calm knowing how it was being handled. Being informed that everything was baing taken care of and no one was panicing probably saved a lot of unnessesary fear.
ReplyDeleteI liked President John F. Kennedy's speech to America. But i have to agree with Sara Shields, he should have had more flow with the way he was talking. I don't know how i would have felt during this time. Probably scared because you don't really know whats going to happen next for sure.

In this video discussing the cuban missile crisis, President John F. Kennedy uses influential words to stop "arms race" and bring peace upon this world. He says that this world needs "not peace at the extent on freedom but both peace and freedom." I strongly agree with Jackie in which Kennedy took this whole situation calmly. He handled it with great confidence which most likely calmed the United States down. This speech was well written and powerful.

I thought the speech by JFK was well done. He showed that he was ready to take the necessary steps defend america. I would change anything to his speech. If i was live at the time i would be very cared of a Nuclear war with USSR.
ReplyDelete-Joe Martino
I thing JFK's speech showed how calm and mature he handled the cuban missle crisis, which made people believe he was a good president. If i were living at the time i would have been very scared knowing the soviets could launch the missles whenever they want.
ReplyDeleteI think Kennedy's speech was well thought out. The tone in his voice seemed to reassure the U.S. He took necessary precautions to prevent the U.S from going into a cuban missile crisis. However, the way his speech is written, it makes it difficult for me to pay attention and understand what he's trying to grasp, and the points he was trying to make. Overall, it was a good speech.
ReplyDelete- Alanna Ooooo.
I think JFK had a well thought out speech and had good things to say to protect his country. I wouldnt change any of it because I thought he did a good job at getting his point across which was a good point. If i was alive during that time I'd be happy to have a leader that knows what hes talking about, knows what hes doing in office and does what he can to keep the people safe.
ReplyDeleteYour best pal,
Danielle Pugh
I think Kennedy's speech was well thought out. He handled it very well. I do have to agree with Alanna though he made it very difficult to understand it with the way he wrote it. If I was around at this time I think I would be scared because back then you never knew what was going to happen no matter what the presidents said. Only because like he said the soviets wanted to launch a missles and could do so anytime.

I feel that the speech made by JFK was an informational speech. He was telling people what was going on, and how he was planning on fixing it. He made everything clear to the people of the United States. I wouldnt change anything that was said.
ReplyDeleteCam
I enjoyed the speech JFK made. I wouldn't have changed anything about the speech, his adress to the nation was done in a mature way. If I were there, I would feel safe and reassured because he show's he actually cares and that he is going to do something about the crisis.

The speech that JFK gave to the country was pretty good.I wouldnt have changed a single thing about this speech because its just that fresh. If i was alive during this time i would have been extremly happy and confident that my president would do everything in his power to prevent something bad from happening
ReplyDeletePAUL M
I think JFK's speech was written well. I have to agree with Sara Shield and Ashley Burkle. The way he was talking was choppy and could of had more flow to it. He got his point straight across though about what was happening and how he's gonna fix it. If i lived during this time i'd be scared somewhat because i wouldnt know what could happen at anytime.
ReplyDeleteKara Gilbert
I liked the speech that JFK gave. I wouldnt change anything about it. Like Danielle said, i feel like he delivered his speech in a very good way. I would feel safe and proud to have him as my president, and I know that he wouldnt let anything bad happen to our country.
ReplyDeleteToni
I think the speech that JFK gave to the country was a very good and well writen speech. i wouldnt and probably couldnt change it to make it any better myself. I would have felt very good during this time that JFK knew what he was doing.
ReplyDelete- Ryan Gardner
Yeah, I would say that I liked his speech, he looks really professional. No, i would not have changed anything about his speech, because he looks official and really presedential, like a real leader should. I would have felt obviously a little worried and concerned just for the plain fact that Cuba and the Soviet Union could attempt to blow us up at any given time, but I also would have felt a little at ease by the way JFK announces these problems and the way he says the U.S is gonna handle them.
ReplyDelete-----Julieeee!<3
JFK is a very intelligent man. He gets his point across and says what is needed. I would not change anything he said. I might have put more ephesis. Though I liked the video over all. I like the fact that JFK fights for what he believes in. If I was living back then I would most likey feel that the country I am living in is controlled by a very intelligent man who knows what he is doing and knows where he stands and he have values.

Looking back on it, even in the1960's,john kennedy was a man before his time. We need a president like him again in the white house. Kudos to president kennedy
ReplyDelete-Matt Butler
I would have felt threatened to if there were missle pointed at the western hemisphere, and i think he mad a good decision to demand world peace so there would be a much less thret to the U.S
ReplyDelete-Sully(;
So i was a fan of the speech he gave.He sounds confident in what he says and hes understandable of what he says.He does a good job of explaining the quote that was said.Personally i wouldnt change a thing.I also would feel safe with him as president cause it seems like he knows what hes doing.
ReplyDelete-Adam Blair
JFK's speech was very well thought of and spoken. He says what he wants to say and pretty much gets down to the point. If i was to change anything i wouldn't change anything. He did a very well job.
ReplyDelete-Jerome
I liked JFK's speech because it was very well written and spoken. It was good that he was at least addressing the problem and keeping everyone informed. I wouldn't have changed anything. I would have felt scared because I wouldn't want to have a war start.
ReplyDelete-Katelyn Chabot
I remember posting my comment after Toni last night. I beleved that Kennedy was very mature about the crisis and handled it well. He seemed strong in his speech and backed up his information. If I lived in that era, I would be in fear of a nuclear war starting. He didn't go off topic, therefore I would not change his speech. (I REALLY HOPE THIS GETS POSTED!!!)
